Barbell Overhead Press

Exercise Description

  1. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and grip the barbell just outside shoulder width. Start with the bar at your upper chest, elbows slightly in front of the bar, and wrists stacked over your elbows.
  2. Engage your core, squeeze your glutes, and keep a neutral spine. Tuck your chin slightly to create a clear path for the bar as you press upward.
  3. Press the barbell straight up in a vertical line. As the bar passes your forehead, move your head slightly forward so the bar finishes directly over your shoulders and midfoot.
  4. Reverse the motion, lowering the bar back to your upper chest with control. Keep your core tight and prepare for the next rep.

Exercise Tips

  1. Keep your back straight and avoid slouching.
  2. Don't keep your elbows close to your torso.
  3. Maintain a regular breathing pattern.
